Stay in a lower gear, you'll have to use your brakes less frequently. Also anticipate stops, so you're not forced into an emergency stop situation.
If you're asking about snowy/slippery roads, then the first rule is to not be in a hurry. Don't make quick maneuvers.

Leave lots of room between you and the car in front.

Easy with the brakes and throttle.

Good tires.

Clean your windows.

Leave early and don't worry about being late. Late is better than being in an accident.

Stay calm.

Find a vacant parking lot and practice when you can.

Have fun.
1.) don't speed

2.) put your vipers on

3.) don't drive under heavy rain or snow

4.) turn your lights on

5.) be alert of traffic and others around you.
Be slow, alert, leave plenty of room between you and all other cars, leave early so you aren't rushed, be aware of other drivers, make sure you have plenty of air in your tires, carry a blanket food etc. if you are out in the country where it will ake a while for someone to get to you, drive with your lights on, turn on wipers, have a full take of gas, turn of the ipod, radio etc., wear good shoes, wear seat belt, BE SAFE,

Drive slower.

Leave more space between you and the vehicle ahead.

Plan ahead for the necessary or potential stops.

Leave your vehicle in Drive, or shift to a higher gear to reduce the chance of a spin out.

Stay home if at all possible.

Drive deliberately, eliminate sudden moves on slippery surfaces.

Drive slower.
fill your gas tank
Drive slow, be patient, both hands on wheel, relax your shoulders, breath deep to stay calm, don't pass, stay far behind other cars in case they stop suddenly. Just be cautious and alert and you'll be fine.
Drive slow, even if most of the lunatic drivers are going fast, you'd rather be safe than dead.

Give yourself enough time and room to stop if roads are icy or snowy.

If you start to skid, don't slam on the brakes. Ease your foot off the gas and slowly apply the brake. Steer in the direction of the skid.

Just use common sense and be careful.
Slow down your speed.

Allow for more travel time.

Brake earlier and with less force.

Don't use cruise control.

Don't attempt to cross running water.

Turn on your headlights.

Watch out for pedestrians.

Give a truck or bus extra distance.

Defog your windows.

Hydroplane, don't brake suddenly or turn the wheel.
