What pointers do you have on distance control for long putts?

From 20 feet + does anybody have good advice to get that first putt within a 2-3 foot range. Any putter recommendations? What pointers do you have on distance control for long putts?
Dre has some good advice but if I might amend it just a bit...the 3 foot circle should be a half circle in back of the hole. always give yourself a chance to put it in. Also when you practice once you line up...dont look at the hole again. Your brain knows how to hard to hit it and if you keep looking at it you just overthink the shot. What pointers do you have on distance control for long putts?
Obviously practicing will help but consistently ';walking off'; your putts will help you. Instead of just ';eyeing it';, walk it off like you would with a fairway shot. Get the feeling for what a ten pace putt is versus a 15 pace putt.
first you have to practice a lot of longer putts and lags to get better speed control, being spot on with short putts will not help you with distance over big greens with two or more breaks...so you have to practice them...me and my guys play a putting game, where any number of players can play...we call it 21(the game is played to 21 points)...everyone putts their first putt, from wherever on the green, the closest after the first putt gets one point, the furthest out putts next until everyone is in, if two players push the hole is a tie, but the 1 point goes to the player who was closest,if someone wins the hole they get two points(after which they putt first on the next hole)...if that person that won the hole also was closest he gets 3 total for the hole...if you hole a first putt , the others get a chance to make and if another one holes he gets the 3 , the first guy to putt is stays first until someone wins a hole, then that player goes first) pretty simple right...except we gamble playing this game, so you HAVE to putt it close, and not miss second putts... I always practice putting at holes with a lot of break and putts over 30 feet (and both combined) so I always try these when Im first up...driving the short distance practice putters nuts...good luck and putt well!
practice...practice...practice
The main thing that can help your stroke is to just practice a lot on the putting green so you get a good feel for the putts.

But the best metal advice i've ever heard is to not try to make putts over about 25 feet. Just imagine a 3 foot circle and try to get it inside that instead of aiming at the hole, which is quite a bit smaller. Most of the time with this you can leave it in a makeable 2nd putt range, and sometimes they go.

This is what I do when I putt, just try to get the long putts close, and I almost made 3 20+ foot birdie putts, all of them missed by no joke almost an inch, it was just a bad day for good breaks, but thats what you have to expect with those long putts, most of the time you wont make them.
